🍀 Away Game -- Reidsville Luckies @ High Point Hushpuppies 🍀
Reidsville loses to fried dough by seven
In a disappointing divisional matchup, the Reidsville Luckies fell to the High Point Hushpuppies, 2-9.
Extra Bases: In yesterday’s edition, which was about the Sanford Spinners game being cancelled, I mentioned that their “Christmas in July” event was also cancelled. The event was supposed to feature an obviously fake, pretend version of Santa, but for tonight’s edition of Extra Bases, I grabbed an interview with the real thing, “Santa” Eric Smith, the biggest superfan of the Luckies!
At what age did you begin watching baseball?
I can remember watching baseball from the start of my life. My entire family were baseball fans so it was on all summer and we went to games a lot.
Who do you credit for your love of the game?
My mother. Even though my entire family enjoyed the sport my mom was probably the biggest fan.
How did you find out about the Reidsville Luckies?
I can’t remember exactly how but I know it wasn’t long after it was announced. I’ve been to most of the games since season one and visited some away games as well.
What has been your favorite part about the Luckies experience?
For the first two seasons just trying to be the biggest fan I could be and for this season being in the press box with you and Joe has been one of the highlights of my life.
End on a fun one: When did you start your peanuts to Pepsi ratio tradition? [For those who don’t watch the broadcasts live, Eric eats one bag of peanuts and drinks two cans of Pepsi during every Luckies game. If he eats more than one bag, or drinks more or less than two cans of Pepsi, Reidsville’s chances of winning substantially drop.]
Probably back in the early 80’s when I was going to games with my parents. At first they wouldn’t let me get two drinks unless I had more peanuts in my bag so I kinda figured out how to work in that 2nd Pepsi.
Notes: While it hurts badly to lose to High Point, who many of Reidsville’s players consider their biggest rivals, they’ll get another shot at them soon.
Upcoming: We’ve entered the final stretch of the season, and the final ten games will take place over the course of the next ten days. You read that right. In the next three days, there will be three home games, up against the Marion Swamp Foxes, High Point, and the Hendersonville Honeycrisps.
