🍀 Superhero Night -- Sandhills Bogeys @ Reidsville Luckies 🍀
Bogeys outduel Luckies in compelling contest
The Reidsville Luckies took on their divisional rivals, the Sandhills Bogeys, in Jaycee Park. The Bogeys came out swinging, with the bases loaded early. The first inning ended with a three-run lead for Sandhills.
After four entertaining innings, the Luckies were down, two runs to four, to the Pinehurst-based team. But, in the bottom of the fifth, the Luckies were able to take off, as Travis Hammond would triple, Kristian Amaro would copy him, and T.J. Highsmith would smash a two-run homer over the left wall.
Colby Thorndyke shined on the mound, making it hard for Reidsville to put runners on base late in the game. Heading into the ninth inning, the Bogeys were up by two runs. The reigning champions soon increased their lead vastly, as six runners came home in the top of the ninth. The Luckies tried to come back, but could only put up one run, as the final score would be thirteen to six.
Lucky of the Game: Kristian Amaro — Amaro did a fantastic job. The Puerto Rican went three for four, with a triple, two singles, one run, and an RBI. If he continues to play this well, the Luckies could win the Old North State League.
Moment of the Game: Highsmith’s two-run homer — T.J. Highsmith provided the tying run in the bottom of the fifth, getting the crowd on their feet.
Fun Events — Children who dressed up as superheroes were given a free Luckies t-shirt. After the game, they were allowed to run the bases and receive autographs. Also, in the middle of the seventh inning, Barry Culberson, General Manager of the Bogeys, and Justin Dill, General Manager of the Luckies, competed in a race around the bases, in which Dill used some underhanded tactics to win.
Notes — The final score didn’t tell the full story, as this was very competitive and enjoyable to watch. Many of the Luckies were able to showcase what we can expect from them for the summer, and it was very promising. I’m excited to watch these players as they develop over the next two months.
Upcoming — The Luckies have three games remaining on their five game homestand. Next weekend, they will face their divisional foes, the High Point Hushpuppies, on Saturday and Sunday, and on June 1st, they will do battle with the Carolina Ducks.
