Sammies mercy-ruled in final non-league game of the season
REIDSVILLE, NC โ The Reidsville Luckies, wearing their Rockingham Sammies alter-ego jerseys, were mercy ruled in their final non-league game of the season, falling 11-1 to the Carolina Yankees in seven innings.
Nigel Robinson was in the leadoff spot, where he has been for the better part of the year, and reached on an error. Ryne Rodrigues hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the NCA&T Aggie, but unfortunately, that was the only offense the Sammies would put on the board for the entire night.
The Yankees had two big innings, scoring four runs apiece in the fifth and the seventh, feasting off of errors by Rockinghamโs infield. Zai Graves, Cole McLain, Lucas Brooks, and Carson Moore split time on the mound, and each of them gave up at least one earned run.
The offense failed to respond to Rockinghamโs defensive woes, culminating in an 11-1 mercy rule.
Lucky of the Game: Nigel Robinson keeps the score from being a shutout, while holding things down in centerfield
Nigel Robinson is now tied with TJ Highsmith for most-ever Lucky of the Game awards, with this being the fourth time he has received the honor.
Moment of the Game: Nigel Robinson stops multiple runs from coming in with a quick grab-and-throw at the right center wall
The bases were loaded in the top of the second inning when it was a very close ballgame. Leadoff Yankee Jackson Cantor hit it into deep right center, where Nigel Robinson went and made the grab. That wasnโt the impressive part.
Robinson threw it back into the field of play with such velocity, the Yankees had no opportunity to tag up and score any runs! While the Yankees did end up winning big, this would have put the lead almost out of reach very early in the game.
Robinson now holds the title of most-ever Moment of the Game awards, and most-ever Ledger awards.
