🍀 Non-League Game | Carolina Yankees @ Reidsville Luckies 🍀
The Luckies lose to a team with an oxymoron for a name
REIDSVILLE, NC — The Luckies failed to capitalize on their three-run first inning, ultimately coming up short. They fell to the Carolina Yankees, a semi-pro team based out of one of the two Carolina states that their name does not specify, whose sister team is probably the New York Carolinians or something like that.
In the first, with Calvin Keesler on base, Jacob Trivette, Landon Parker, Myles Odom, and Zachary Cimino hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles to bring in three runs.
They were looking good until the third inning, after a huge start by Connor Riggs with six consecutive outs. But, after the strikeout, groundout, flyout, groundout, flyout, and strikeout kicked off the game, the Yankees began to cook.
Carolina scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. After five innings, it was a seven to five lead for Carolina. In the seventh, Myles Odom and Cal Nielsen made a huge connection to catch a runner stealing, seizing some momentum for the Luckies.
However and unfortunately, Lucky City could not mount anything offensively, and the Yankees put it to bed with two more runs, despite another fantastic Odom-Nielsen play. The Luckies lost, 9-5.
Lucky of the Game: Myles Odom does it all, scoring two runs on risky but effective base running, and making two beautiful catch-and-tags at second
Myles Odom did so much. In the first inning, after hitting an RBI single, Odom also raced home on a passed ball and slid into the plate for the score! In the fifth inning, after being hit by a pitch, Odom had advanced to second. Gavin Fleming then chopped it to left field, and Odom raced home and slid in for another score. He then shifted from third base, where he was performing very well, to fill in for Cole Price at second, and made impressive play after impressive play, proving he can do it anywhere in the infield. Myles and I talked more about his performance in a post-game interview, included below.
Moment of the Game: Myles Odom makes the beautiful catch and tag on James Dockery to stop any momentum for the Yankees
In the seventh inning, with one out, James Dockery on first base, and Ethan Sanasie-Edwards at the plate with two strikes, Dockery attempted a steal. Cal Nielsen took it and launched a rocket to second base, where Odom made the catch across his body and brought it all the way back for the tag on Dockery! On the next pitch, Sanasie-Edwards struck out! It would have been a huge momentum swinger if the Luckies could have connected on the offensive side, but nevertheless, this was a bright spot for Reidsville on a tough night.
With his two Moment of the Game wins and his Lucky of the Game award today, Myles Odom becomes the eighth Lucky ever with three Ledger awards, which is very impressive considering he has only been here for a few games. For comparison, only Gavin Fleming and Kristian Amaro have four, and TJ Highsmith is the only one with more than four, at an astronomical seven Ledger wins.
Extra Bases
In one of my favorite interviews to date, I spoke with Calvin Keesler about Wisconsin, cheese, college, and baseball.
Extra Bases
Maddox King got a ring today! The Tampa Spartans won the title, and King hit an exclamation point home run in the ninth inning to add a cherry on top! And finally, King gets to come to Lucky City and show us what we are made of. As soon as King arrives in North Carolina, an interview will be on the L||L, so make sure you are subscribed.
Shoutout to Joseph Urso, the uncle of Chenzo Scanio, who won his sixth title as a coach and seventh with Tampa if you include his championship as a player.
On-Deck
Here we go, today was non-league, tomorrow is huge. If you have watched or listened to any of my content that includes our podcast or my interviews with players over the past year, I don’t like nobody likes the High Point Hushpuppies.
We just don’t.
Excited to taste that win tomorrow.
