New Bern Southpaws announced as twentieth ONSL team, two part-time teams also introduced
One new team has gone viral for its odd choice of a mascot
With the Old North State League at nineteen teams, not every division had an equal number. Thankfully, the New Bern Southpaws were announced as the most recent addition to the fold, joining the River City Skippers, Kinston Wingmen, and fellow new additions in the Edenton Steamers and Tarboro River Bandits to fill out the Northeastern Division.
As far as we know, the plan is for eight teams to be included in the Old North State League playoffs, which has been branded the “You Can Go Home Now” tournament. This means that only forty percent of teams will be included in the postseason, the same rate as last year.
Now, with the ONSL at twenty official teams, they added in two part-time teams, one from Burlington, “Old North State” North Carolina, and one from Danville, Virginia. Burlington’s baseball club, which has not been branded yet with a team name or logo, will be playing their games at the Burlington Athletic Stadium. Both of these teams will be part-timers in 2024, but will move up to full participants in the league during the 2025 season. They are both owned by Knuckleball Entertainment.
And now for the weird part.
Danville, a secondary team of the Otterbots that compete in the Appalachian League, will be known as the Dairy Daddies. Yes, this has gone megaviral, and yes, they have played into that name to the fullest extent, and no, I do not wish to elaborate much further. This team makes me feel exceptionally uncomfortable, and thankfully, I do not believe the Luckies play against them this year. If you do not believe me about the megaviral part, just look up “danville” and one of the search suggestions will be “danville dairy daddies.” And then you will find a ridiculous amount of articles on it, so you can see for yourself how much everyone loves this 2025 Old North State League franchise.
