Tonight’s away game against the Kinston Wingmen has been cancelled, according to their Facebook page. No makeup date has been announced.
The reason behind it is thunderstorms, which are coming in all over North Carolina. Thankfully, it is only supposed to be partly cloudy for the home game tomorrow, allowing the fans some shade without the fear of anything being cancelled or postponed.
Extra Bases: I got in contact with the parents of Gavin Fleming, the only two-time Lucky of the Game and two-time Moment of the Game recipient. I asked them a few questions, which are below.
“What is your favorite part about the Reidsville Luckies experience?”
The community supports the team and players. The Luckies recognize young kids who play sports at the game and have them interact with the players.
“Does Gavin enjoy being a Lucky?”
Yes, it’s a different and new baseball experience.
“How did Gavin find out about the Luckies, and whose idea was it for him to join?”
He was contacted by Chenzo Scanio, the head coach of the Luckies.
“At what age did Gavin start playing baseball?”
He was four years old when he first began.
“Who inspired Gavin to start playing?”
His older brother, Hunter, and the competitiveness he has always had with his twin brother Brennan.
“Can we expect Gavin to return to the Luckies next season?”
Most definitely!!
Special thanks to the Flemings for their responses. Gavin is out of town this week, but they are keeping up with all of the games, via the Old North State League’s live streams and the Luckies Ledger.
Admittedly, I get excited every time I read that last answer.
Notes: This is a momentum killer for the Luckies. They were expecting to head into their game with the High Point Hushpuppies riding a two-game win streak, but that did not come to fruition. It’s upsetting that they didn’t get the opportunity to put up another in the win column and continue their climb to the top of the division, but they’ve got a plethora of chances to do so during the next week.
On-Deck: Five home games! The Hushpuppies, Native American National Team, Carolina Ducks, Oak City Gliders, and Sanford Spinners will all be able to tell their friends that they got put down by the Luckies after this packed week of baseball.
