Interview with Manager Chenzo Scanio | Plus, a breakdown of the 2024 ONSL Playoffs
Chenzo Scanio speaks out on the series with the Fungo, the pitching staff, and how he feels going into the Clayton series
I interviewed Luckies Manager Chenzo Scanio following the Reidsville Luckies winning back-to-back elimination games in Wake Forest to punch their ticket to the postseason. Listen in below.
The Luckies manager on how they handled stretching the pitching staff for seventeen innings.
I’ve been telling these guys all summer, especially this last week or so, it was going to take every guy… and it really did.
Scanio on the dugout emotional temperature during the rain delay.
It was weird, I think every guy said it multiple times — “Three more outs.”
Chenzo on if the approach heading into a series with the best team in the league changes compared to how they compete with the Wake Forest Fungo.
We’ve played Clayton probably better than any team in the league… we’re pretty confident going in.
2024 Old North State League Playoff Bracket
Above is the 2024 Old North State League Playoff Bracket. Game one takes place at the lower-seeded team’s place on Thursday, and game two will take place at the team with the better record’s home field. If both teams win one game apiece, game three will take place at the higher-seeded team’s place on Saturday.
The same format takes place in the semifinals, where the winner of the Western Division faces the winner of the Central Division, and the winner of the Northeastern Division faces the winner of the Southeastern.
Those winners compete in the Finals to determine who brings home the 2024 ONSL Championship.
In the Western Division, second-half championship-wielding Hendersonville Honeycrisps will be the home team as they take on the first-half champion Lexington Flying Pigs.
In the Central Division, the Clayton Clovers won both half-championships, and the Luckies had the second-best divisional record to make it to he title. The Luckies won games two and three in Cary yesterday to keep the summer alive. On Thursday, come to Jaycee Park to witness Reidsville in their first-ever playoff game at 5 PM.
In the Northeast Division, the Tarboro River Bandits won the first-half championship, and the New Bern Southpaws won the second-half. Since the Southpaws have a better divisional record, the first game will be played in Tarboro and games two and a potential game three will take place in the birthplace of Pepsi.
In the Southeast, two teams who have hurt me in the past compete. I picked the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs in the Bracket Battle of the Broadcasters last year, and they lost in the first round. And the Bogeys were Reidsville’s number one rival in 2023, and they are still my number one rival. The Bogeys make me nauseous. Since Sandhills has a better divisional record than Brunswick, games two and an if necessary three will take place in Pinehurst.
