π Interleague Game -- Carolina Yankees @ Reidsville Luckies π
Luckies lose grip on lead, drop game to Carolina Yankees
REIDSVILLE, NC β The Luckies werenβt able to hold onto their three-run lead, as everything went off the rails in the eighth inning, eventually losing, 13-3, in a mercy rule.
Craig Vacher did a spectacular job to start the game, pitching a no-hitter through four innings. It was a low-scoring affair, and, after four innings, it was just a 1-0 lead for Reidsville.
Lucky City stepped things up in the bottom of the sixth, as Jacob Trivette and Hudson Powell helped extend the lead to three. However, the Carolina Yankees bounced back in the top of the seventh with four runs to seize the lead.
The rotating cast of pitchers, which included Cole McClain, Sam Melton, and Jacob Jones, werenβt able to do as well as Vacher and Nicholas Morgan had done, and the Yankees took advantage. In the eighth inning, they cracked off nine runs, and, when the Luckies couldnβt return anything, a mercy rule was called.
Lucky of the Game: Hudson Powell β Powell went three-for-three tonight, with three singles, a sacrifice fly, and two RBIs. This is Huddyβs first-ever Lucky of the Game honor.
Moment of the Game: Jacob Trivetteβs double sends Jay Allred home, advances Ryne Rodrigues to third β Trivette had a pair of doubles tonight, and was a bright spot in a bleak game.
Notes β Unfortunately, the Sandhills Bogeys took down the Oak City Gliders tonight, and the Luckies are now three games out of the postseason. However, thereβs still a month left of baseball for the Luckies to make that up, and, hopefully, theyβll continue to win the games that matter to push them toward that second place spot in the Central Division.
Another upsetting note is that Andrews Opata and Edwin Bowman IV, North Georgia University players, will be returning to the Peach State next week, which is saddening, as they have been two of the most consistent Luckies ever since joining the team.
And finally, perhaps worst of all, the Luckies had more hits than the team that mercy ruled them.
On-Deck β Sunday evening, the Luckies will try to get the best of the aforementioned Gliders, a team that they have comeback wins against on three separate occassions.
