REIDSVILLE, NC โ The Reidsville Luckies downed the Oak City Gliders, 6-4, thanks to a walk-off two-run home run by Ryne Rodrigues!!!
In this edition, Iโll recap the overall game, but I am publishing another edition tonight with everything about that walk-off home run. Iโve got a clip of the home run, interviews with GM Justin Dill, owner Steve Shropshire, my guy Joe Dexter, Tyler Sorrell (who was on base when Rodrigues hit the homer), and the main man, Ryne Rodrigues. But it wouldnโt do justice to pack that all into this edition, so that will be on its way.
Alrighty, heart rate is back down to the triple digits. Hereโs how the game went.
Star outfielder Nigel Robinson was the lone run in the first inning, racing home on a sacrifice fly from Landon Parker. Brennan Fleming got the start on the bump for Lucky City, and when Trevon Person scored in the third inning, Brennan seemingly took that personally.
The Gliders who faced Brennan next did not have much luck. Miller Young popped out, Tyler Spruill walked, Nathan Roller struck out swinging, Mason Fennell struck out looking, Jadon Jones struck out looking, Graham Wike struck out looking, Trevon Person struck out looking, and Sam Schaeffer copy and paste again struck out looking.
When youโve got a pitcher wheeling and dealing like that, you must take advantage. The Luckies did just that. Landon Parker, Ryne Rodrigues, and Zachary Cimino all stepped on home plate to give Reidsville a 4-1 lead.
Unfortunately, the Gliders got some life again when Brennan stopped pitching. Mason Fennell hit a two-RBI double to put the Gliders within one.
In the seventh and eighth innings, despite a lot of bases, nobody made it appear on the scoreboard.
The Luckies failed to end it in the top of the ninth. Graham Wike got on base, and then Trevon Person smashed it to right field. It could have went over the wall, but Nigel Robinson made an exceptional run, leap, and grab to keep the Gliders from potentially scoring two runs and seizing the lead! After I informed Robinson after the game that Ryne stole his Moment of the Game with that walk-off, he laughed, saying that he didnโt care where the ball went, he was going after it. In the future, an edition of Extra Bases will feature an interview with Robinson.
After this, though, Tyler Stillson would knock Wilke in, tying things up heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Tyler Sorrell, subbing in for Jacob Trivette, got on base with a walk. Landon Parker struck out in a long, controversial at-bat, and Ryne Rodrigues came up to the plate. Rodrigues got in an 0-2 hole, before launching it to left field and over the wall, winning the game!!! The Luckies win, 6-4! Make sure you check back for my special edition about that hit later tonight.
Lucky of the Game: Brennan Fleming
Rarely do I give a pitcher the Lucky of the Game. But what else would it take to give Brennan Fleming this one? Brennan struck out six batters in a row, barely allowed the Oak City Gliders to do anything, and just crushed it on the mound.
Moment of the Game: Ryne Rodrigues sends it over the left field wall for the home run, giving the Luckies the huge win over their rivals
Not going to go too deep into this, as I will be writing an entire article about this moment in a few minutes. Make sure you are subscribed to get it delivered to your inbox immediately.
As a Spurs and Cowboys fan, this moment is placed in a very small file of happy sports moments for me. Ryne gets an edition all to himself, coming up quick.
