🍀 Divisional Game | Oak City Gliders @ Reidsville Luckies 🍀
Luckies take over seventh inning, win their last game of the first half
REIDSVILLE, NC — The Reidsville Luckies finished off the first half of the season strong, defeating the Oak City Gliders for the third time here in 2024.
The Luckies have had a great track record against OCG, winning four out of six in 2023 and sweeping them in the first half of this year.

The Luckies, who had struggled in late innings this week, kept things just about even throughout. When the Gliders scored one run in the first, the Luckies scored one run in the bottom, and when the Gliders scored one run in the third, the Luckies scored one run in the bottom. Finally, in the fifth inning, the Luckies took command, as when the Gliders scored one run, the Luckies scored three.
But the loss from the Luckies night in Clayton on Saturday must have been fresh on their mind, as they played the seventh inning almost to perfection.
Graham Wike and Logan Lowe got on base while Cole McLain was in his second inning of work. But, Tyler Spruill would fly out to centerfield, and Tyler Stillson struck out swinging. McLain continued rolling, but, unfortunately, Nathaniel Roller reached on an error, allowing Graham Wike to score. Myles Odom and Cole Price then connected to end the top half of the seventh, but Raleigh was now within one run and things were looking scary.
Lucky City then took full control.
The entire batting order either scored or hit an RBI, giving the Luckies seven runs. The highlights from the inning included a 2 RBI double from Ryne Rodrigues and a 3 RBI double from Brody Ray.
Jasean Brown then took care of things on the mound in the eighth and the ninth, and Reidsville won the home game by eight runs, improving to 7-5 in divisional play.
Lucky of the Game: Brody Ray substitutes in to lead off six inning, and absolutely crushes it with a 3-RBI double and an amazing outfield play
You could not have asked for much more from a sub than what Ray did, leading the team in RBI thanks to his double in the seventh inning and ending the game with the play below.
Moment of the Game: With one out in the ninth, Brody Ray slides to make the double play and win the game
With one down in the top of the ninth and two runners on base, Tyler Stillson came up to the plate. The pitch from Brown was knocked into right field, where Ray made the grab. Tyler Spruill had gotten a huge lead on first base after the hit because he did not think the catch would be made, and Ray took advantage, slinging it to first baseman Carson Moore to win the game.
Extra Bases
I interviewed manager Chenzo Scanio about how important this game was, what he liked from the first half of 2024, what he would like to see in the second half, and if there are have been any differences between 2023 and 2024.
On-Deck
We’ve got a big break this week, and the All-Star Game will be on Saturday, June 29th. I’ll be posting an edition that reviews the first half of the season, explains the playoff procedure, and informs Luckies Ledger readers of our guys in Reidsville who will appear in the All-Star Game at East Clayton Community Park. I will also include interviews with Landon Parker, Jacob Trivette, and Sam Melton in that edition.
