π Divisional Game | Clayton Clovers @ Reidsville Luckies π
Luckies drop big one to Clovers, 14-4
REIDSVILLE, NC β It was a bad night at Jaycee Park, as the Clayton Clovers devoured the Reidsville Luckies, 14-4.
The Clovers dugout was very hyper, even when facing two outs in the top of the first with a man on first. They tried to get in the head of Connor Riggs, and multiple times, the game was paused for the umpire to warn the dugout about the content of the things they were shouting. They got even louder, mockingly yelling βLetβs go Clovers!β at the top of their lungs.
Davie Morgan, Zach Chavis, and Calden Chilauvskey scored runs, but with the bases full of Clovers, Caleb Smith grounded out to Sam Melton, who made the force out at second.
The Luckies then took a page out of Claytonβs book, and with two outs, Cole McLain sent it over the first basemanβs head to bring in two runs to make it 3-2 at the end of one inning.
However, it all went downhill from there. The Clovers scored nine combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and the only positive is that the Luckies kept it from being a mercy rule, bringing the score within ten before eventually falling, 14-4.
Rough loss for Reidsville, but they did split the weekend series with Clayton, and there are four more games to play against the Clovers. βSantaβ Eric Smith gave us a nugget on the broadcast that the Clovers are undefeated on the road, so this was not an awful loss to take.
Lucky of the Game: Calvin Keesler is the only Lucky with two hits and only Lucky with a walk in rough batting game
In a game that was so tough to watch as a Luckies fan, Calvin Keesler was a bright spot, getting on base three times and scoring a run.
Moment of the Game: Nigel Robinson makes dazzling double-play in outfield to send us the bottom half of the second inning.
After the first inning in which Cole McLain had brought the score within one, the Luckies were trying to get something rolling to quiet down the Clovers dugout. Robinson did just that, as he ran to make the catch on Garrett Muffittβs fly ball when Lane McLean had charged to second. The bad read resulted in Robinson rocketing it back to first base, where Carson Moore would catch it to end the inning.
