π Away Game -- Reidsville Luckies @ Clayton Clovers π
Luckies downed, 6-3, in battle of green, luck-based teams
In Clayton, North Carolina, the Luckies werenβt able to get the best of the Clovers, who used this game to propel themselves to over .500
.
The Luckies started off right with a quick score, but the Clovers combatted that with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. The Luckies chipped away steadily, and by the ninth inning, they were only down 3-4. However, three outs stopped Reidsville from yet another comeback victory, and Clayton would notch a home victory.
Extra Bases: Jacksonville, North Carolina is getting its very own Old North State League baseball club, and theyβve settled on a name: the Jacksonville Ospreys. I was a little bit disappointed, since I went to the team website and voted for the name to be βWhippersnappers,β mostly because I thought it would give us something to laugh at.
They will be playing at Jack Amyette Park, and recently, an exhibition game was held between the Brunswick Surfinβ Turfs and the Kinston Wingmen on the new field.
Next year, since there will be sixteen teams in the Old North State League, a divisional realignment is going to have to take place. Currently, there are five teams apiece in the Western, Central, and Eastern Division.
I have suggestions for the divisional realignment.
The Coastal Division would include the Kinston Wingmen, Brunswick Surfinβ Turfs, River City Skippers, and Jacksonville Ospreys.
The Central Division would hold the Fayetteville Chutes, Oak City Gliders, Sanford Spinners, and Clayton Clovers.
The Western Division would feature the Sandhills Bogeys, Pineville Porcupines, Hendersonville Honeycrisps, and Marion Swamp Foxes.
Finally, the Piedmont Division would have the Lenoir Legends, Lexington Flying Pigs, High Point Hushpuppies, and our very own Reidsville Luckies.
As for the playoffs, the top two teams from each division could advance. Or, better yet, the four division winners could be guaranteed a home series, seeded based off of record, and the top four, record-wise, teams that didnβt win their division would fill out seeds five through eight. More teams would get a chance at playoff baseball, and it would be entertaining to watch the wild card teams battle it out all over the league, instead of teams only having to worry about their division.
For instance, the Porcupines currently have a slightly better record than the Wingmen, but because thereβs no wild card, they arenβt in position to make the playoffs. That could all change when the divisions realign.
Notes: The Luckies continue to spiral down to the depths of the Central Division. Itβll take a massive winning streak for them to sneak into a playoff spot.
Upcoming: This was the first game of Reidsvilleβs four game road stretch. In the next three games, which are all divisional, theyβll be traveling to Raleigh, which is the home of the Gliders, followed by a trip to High Point, and then capped off by a game in Sandhills. Then, thankfully, theyβll get some home games at Jaycee Park.
